What makes life worth living is positive energy in our surroundings. In the absence of this energy, everything seems awful and discolored.
Age is just a number. It is the energy that keeps you alive. One should be zealous to sustain on this ship of life. Lack of zeal and your ship might sink, or it may just stay afloat but you will miss out on the fun part.
Meet Katie. She’s a 58-year-old grandmother who is always remembered as a happy and energetic person in her family.
Her children and grandchildren say that as far as they can remember she is always cheerful and energetic, especially in hard situations.
When we asked her about her reasons to be energetic, she said,” World is full of difficulties and people with sad faces. But I always do my best to laugh and smile when I face them. I always try to make them laugh and boost their energies. ”
“I believe being energetic makes me feel like I’ve lived the longest and life flows a little easier. ”
Also, she says,” If you always stress about the happenings around you and stick to anxiety and sadness. Then you are a sight of gloominess. On the contrary, if you are full of energy and up on your toes to do something fun, then you are a sight not just to look at but to stare at.”
How to be more energetic every day?
So, we asked her about some ways she does to be more energetic every day. These are the most important tips:
1. Exercise:
Katie has been always trying to stick to exercise in her life. She usually walks in her garden or does yoga. In her opinion, exercise almost guarantees that we’ll sleep more soundly. It also gives our cells more energy to burn and circulates oxygen. And exercising can lead to higher brain dopamine levels, which helps elevate mood.
She suggests, “You can select one sport also which you play regularly. Playing sports keeps us fit and energetic all day. If we stay at home or in the office all day long then we become lazy and will not feel energetic. It impacts our work also.”
2. Lighten your load:
One of the main reasons for fatigue is overwork. Overwork can include professional, family, and social obligations.
So, she tries to streamline her list of “must-do” activities, set her priorities in terms of the most important tasks, and pare down those that are less important.
3. Eat healthily:
She says,” We often feel tired or sleepy due to the junk food intake in our bodies. Sugary drinks and fried eatables mess up with our hormones which has a direct impact on our behavior and mood swings. Because of this, our energy levels are gone for a toss as it drops down.” So, she tries to include nuts, cereals, vegetables, and fruits in her diet and decrease her fat and sugary intake in this regard.
4. Think positively:
Most of the negative energy is because of negative thoughts. We think negatively about some person or some situation or someone’s action or some material things. Katie says, “Whenever we think negatively our energy level decreases.”
Therefore, whenever we get negative thoughts, we should learn to change them to positive ones.
5. Avoid smoking:
In her youth, Katie had smoked. We all know smoking threatens our health. But you may not know that smoking actually siphons off your energy by causing insomnia. The nicotine in tobacco is a stimulant, so it speeds the heart rate, raises blood pressure, and stimulates brain-wave activity associated with wakefulness, making it harder to fall asleep.
She is not smoking for more than 20 years.
6. Use caffeine to your advantage:
Katie advises that caffeine does help increase alertness, so having a cup of coffee can help sharpen your mind.
But to get the energizing effects of caffeine, you have to use it judiciously. It can cause insomnia, especially when consumed in large amounts or after 2 p.m.
7. Drink water:
She persists that for having energy every day, you should drink plenty of water. If your body is short of fluids, one of the first signs is a feeling of fatigue.
8. Get enough sleep:
Katie says,” If we suffered from a lack of energy, it might be because we were not getting enough sleep.” According to the Sleep Foundation, adults should get between 7 and 9 hours of sleep each night.
So, make sure you get enough sleep. Avoid heavy meals and too much alcohol just before bedtime as these might make sleeping more difficult.
9. Meditate.
One of the most useful habits that Katie has added to her routine, is meditating.
Meditating allows us to bring the mind to rest from all the stressful emotions and thoughts experienced throughout the day and night. It won’t silence the mind, but it will quiet our mind to a manageable (and observable) level and can have a significant effect on our energy.
To sum up, there are two energy centers. One is physical energy and the other one is mental energy. Physical energy comes from a healthy lifestyle and the mental energy source is the emotional mind. To be energetic all day long we must work on both the energy levels – physical and mental.
Try these tips that Katie suggested on how to be more energetic every day. Good luck!
