I don’t know about you, but I always have a problem to motivate myself to achieve my goals. In fact, at first, I’m so interested to work hard to fulfill anything I want but after a few days, I give up.
In contrast, my friend Sarah is so hardworking and successful in achieving anything she wants in her life. I’m always proud of her and curious to know how she motivates herself.
First, I thought she has an encourager in her life. Someone who always motivates her when she is disappointed.
So, I decided to ask her if that may help me with this problem.
I told her I wish I could have someone in life like yours that always pushes me to my goals.
She laughed at me and said,” come on, my motivator in life is me.” I was surprised because I always think there should be someone in our life to encourage us toward our goals.
Do you want to know how Sarah motivates herself in life?
So, read her tips.
Sarah explains that motivation is the process that initiates, guides, and maintains goal-oriented behaviors. It is what causes you to act, whether it is getting a glass of water to reduce thirst or reading a book to gain knowledge.
B.J Fogg mentioned in his book, named Tiny Habits, about motivation. He says:
Motivation is a desire to do a specific behavior (eat spinach tonight) or a general class of behaviors (eat vegetables and other healthy foods each night).
Now let’s go to some of Sarah’s tips about the way she learned to motivate herself.
Sarah’s experiences with motivating herself:
-
Argue the opposite
She says when we’re struggling with motivation, we’ll likely come up with a long list of reasons why we shouldn’t take any action. So, try arguing the opposite.
When you think you’re going to fail, argue all the reasons why you might succeed. Or when you think you can’t finish a job, list all the evidence that shows you’ll be able to complete the task.
-
Track your progress
Once you get into the flow of setting and achieving goals, it’s easy to lose track of how far you’ve come. So, create a system or download an app to view your progress regularly. This will keep you motivated as you progress.
Sarah says that some apps like the Habitomic app help her to track her progress and it’s a good assistant that tries hard to help her to be not disappointed.
-
Reward yourself
Create a small reward for yourself that you can earn for your hard work. You might find focusing on the reward helps you stay motivated to reach your goals.
Sarah usually gives herself eating good food in a perfect restaurant, or having a relaxing day. She says,” you know these small things make me try my best.”
-
Manage your to-do list
” Having and managing a to-do list helps me a lot. When I write down the steps I should take to achieve my goals, I can do better and also track my progress wisely.”
So as a solution, take a look at your to-do list, and determine if it’s too long. If so, get rid of tasks that aren’t essential.
In conclusion, these are some tips that Sarah as a person who is always trying to motivate herself does in her life. Let’s start together to be the motivator of our life.
